About African Blackwood

African Blackwood is one of the world's most prized specialty hardwoods. Also known as Mpingo, it is valued for its exceptionally dense structure, rich dark coloration, fine grain, and outstanding durability.

The heartwood typically ranges from deep black to dark violet-brown, sometimes displaying subtle darker or lighter streaks. Its smooth texture and ability to take an excellent polish make it especially desirable for high-end craftsmanship.

African Blackwood is particularly famous in musical instrument manufacturing because of its excellent acoustic properties. It is widely used for clarinets, oboes, flutes, bagpipes, and other specialist instruments. Its extreme hardness and stability also make it suitable for knife handles, turning blanks, fine inlays, and premium decorative products.

We carefully select African Blackwood for color, density, grain quality, dimensions, and overall character. We supply logs, boards, slabs, blocks, turning blanks, and custom-cut timber according to your exact specifications.
