Hardwood fuel (oak, beech, ash) provides a high calorific value of approximately 4.0–4.5 kWh/kg (dry basis), with a slow, hot burn ideal for extended heating cycles and premium domestic use. Softwood fuel (spruce, pine, larch) offers fast ignition, high initial heat output, and suitability for biomass boilers and quick-start applications.
