About European Spruce Logs & Timber

European Spruce (Picea abies), also known as Norway Spruce, is the most widely used softwood in European construction and the benchmark tonewood for acoustic instrument soundboards worldwide. The wood is creamy white to pale yellowish-brown with a fine, straight grain and an exceptionally high stiffness-to-weight ratio. At approximately 470 kg/m³, it is lightweight yet strong, making it the ideal structural softwood for roofing battens, rafters, joists, studwork, and engineered wood products. Carefully selected, slow-grown spruce with tight annual rings is prized by luthiers for violin, guitar, and piano soundboards. EU-TIMBER supplies PEFC-certified spruce logs from Belgian and Alpine forests, available as round logs and sawn structural timber.
