About European Oak — Barrel Staves & Cooperage Wood

EU-TIMBER supplies premium European oak (Quercus robur and Quercus petraea) specifically selected and processed for the cooperage industry. Barrel-grade oak requires tight, straight grain, low porosity, and a high tyloses content — all characteristics of the slow-grown sessile oak from Belgian and French forests, particularly from regions with well-established cooperage traditions. Stave wood is typically air-dried for 2–3 years prior to coopering to develop the complex phenolic profiles and tannin structure that define the character of the finest wines, whiskies, and spirits. Available as: split stave billets (merrains), sawn stave blanks, heading wood, and bung staves. Custom dimensions and moisture content to order. Suitable for wine barrels (225L barriques), whisky hogsheads, cognac barrels, and craft spirit producers.
