About European Larch Logs & Timber

European Larch (Larix decidua) is the most durable softwood native to Europe, rated durability Class 3 and approaching Class 2 in its dense heartwood, making it suitable for exterior use without preservative treatment. The heartwood is a distinctive warm reddish-brown to brick-red, contrasting strongly with the pale yellow sapwood. At around 590 kg/m³, it is noticeably denser and harder than other European softwoods, with high resin content that protects against decay and UV degradation. The tight, straight grain and natural oil content give larch cladding and decking an excellent service life, often exceeding 25 years untreated. EU-TIMBER supplies PEFC-certified larch logs from Alpine and Belgian plantation forests. Highly sought for exterior cladding, decking, garden structures, boat building, fencing, and civil engineering applications including hydraulic works.
