About Douglas Fir Logs & Structural Timber

Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), though native to North America, has been successfully cultivated in European forests for over a century and is now widely grown in Belgium, France, and Germany. It produces some of the largest and strongest softwood timber available in Europe, with a density of approximately 530 kg/m³ and exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. The heartwood is orange-brown to reddish-brown, with a straight, moderately coarse grain. Its high stiffness and bending strength make it the timber of choice for heavy structural applications: large-span beams, portal frames, glulam, and CLT panels. EU-TIMBER supplies PEFC-certified European-grown Douglas fir logs, well-suited for structural engineering, heavy joinery, timber frame construction, and large architectural features.
